Our Story

A family venture from the hills of Shimla, preserving generational recipes and supporting the people who grow our ingredients.

The Village Jar founder preparing pickles in Shimla
Who We Are

Pure flavours from the heart of Himachal

The Village Jar began in 2024 in a home kitchen in Shimla, but its story is much older. Our founder grew up in the hills of Himachal watching pickles being made the slow way — vegetables sun-dried on rooftops through crisp mountain afternoons, spices ground by hand on stone, mustard oil warmed patiently, and jars left to mature through the seasons.

Those recipes, carried down through generations of her family, are exactly what goes into every jar we sell today. And unlike most food brands, there is no factory, no production line, and no outsourcing behind that promise. Every single jar of The Village Jar is handcrafted by our founder herself — one batch at a time, in her own kitchen.

She selects the produce, grinds the spices, watches over the sun-drying, fills and seals each jar, and packs every order by hand. It is slower this way, and our batches are smaller for it — but it is the only way to guarantee that what reaches your table tastes exactly like it did in a Himachali home kitchen decades ago. When you message us, it is her who replies.

Our Values

What we stand for

Purity

Clean Labels

100% natural ingredients from certified organic farms in Himachal Pradesh. No artificial preservatives, colours, or flavourings.

Tradition

Generational Recipes

Sun-drying, cold-pressing, and slow-cooking — the same methods our grandmothers used, unchanged.

Craft

Made by One Pair of Hands

Every jar is prepared personally by our founder — no factory, no production line, no compromise.

Sustainability

Small Batches

We make only what the season provides. Limited batches mean fresher jars and zero industrial shortcuts.

Why It Matters

More than a food business

Mass-produced pickles rely on synthetic preservatives and shortcuts that strip away both flavour and nutrition. We took the opposite path: slow food, clean labels, and honest sourcing.

  • Completely vegan and gluten-free — suitable for every household.
  • 9–12 months of natural shelf life achieved through mustard oil and traditional technique, not chemicals.
  • Every purchase supports mindful eating, a small family venture, and the culinary heritage of Himachal.

We are not just preserving food — we are preserving a way of life.
